Jet Lewin

I provide assessment and bespoke specialist teaching for school-age students with maths difficulties.  The focus of my work is to help pupils to build their self-esteem, and to develop a learning strategy that uses their individual areas of strength to support areas they find more challenging.

My professional teaching career has spanned two decades, initially as class teacher and maths subject lead.  I was the author of books for the Folens Maths Scheme, including the manuals for struggling students in years 5 and 6.  I understand the demands of teaching a class of 30+ children, each with differing strengths and difficulties.

After having children, I began my training in the field of dyslexia and supporting students with specific learning difficulties, but teaching maths has always been my first passion.  I have worked as a specialist teacher/assessor both in school and privately.  In addition, I can provide training and guidance for parents, teachers and support staff.

I am currently continuing my studies, with a long term goal of getting an MA in dyscalculia.

  • Testimonial from a client

I have known Jet since 2016. When I was in Year 6, teachers at my school had predicted that I would be unable to pass my SATS due to having dyslexia and dyscalculia. However, I was very fortunate to have come into contact with Jet. In a short amount of time, she successfully helped me to overcome my reading and writing difficulties and she helped me with maths too. As a result of the work we did together, I was able to surpass expectations and pass the exams. A very perceptive and insightful person, Jet adapts courses in order to suit individual needs and thus maintains a student’s interest and focus. I am always astonished at how she not only helps you to achieve the required targets, but she also has the ability to help you attain goals that you would not have set yourself, especially those that had once seemed out of reach. Jet is a very understanding and professional teacher. For as long as I have known her, she has consistently attended courses to deepen her knowledge; she is thoroughly committed to continued professional development. I find Jet an exceptionally kind, compassionate and empathetic person; this is clearly shown in my current maths lessons with her. She is a teacher who is able to help you develop a positive mindset, particularly in subjects you mind most challenging. She is a very versatile and eclectic teacher. The way Jet assesses a person’s dyslexia, dyscalculia and other learning challenges is refreshingly positive and encouraging. One of the main reasons I would always recommend working with Jet, is as a result of her immaculate teaching skills. Moreover, Jet is never belittling; she is constantly patient and flexible. She is able to perceive the unique talents and intelligence within each individual and equips you with the confidence to go forward and learn new things. S. Bushey, Hertfordshire (15 years old).
