Nick Varley
As a trained specialist teacher I am able to assess and diagnose dyscalculia. I also offer one to one and group tuition for age ranges 7-18. My specific qualification is a Post Graduate Diploma (Dyscalculia) and I am an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA). I am an educational professional with many years experience. My career has been spent most in secondary school teaching focusing on students with maths difficulties. However I am a primary school governor with a focus on teaching and learning.
My current teaching role is as a Lead Maths Practitioner for a multi academy trust. This involves training staff and developing teaching strategies for a range of mathematical abilities. IÂ run INSET training at schools and have spoken at events to enhance that awareness of Dyscalculia and other mathematical difficulties.
As part of my practice I follow a multi sensory approach to teaching. Intervention involves identifying a goal and following a structured approach using prior student knowledge to achieve positive outcomes. As part of the learning both the student and myself evaluate the success of our efforts.
Thank you for taking the time to read my biography and I look forward to hearing from you.

Reference from a professional
To Whom It May Concern: I am pleased to introduce you to Nick Varley a highly valued and motivated member of Farringtons School from 2015 and until June 2022. As the SENCO of the school, I worked closely with Nick always willing offer support and ask for guidance if required. Nick has been passionate in improving teaching and learning across the school. As part of his role he offered whole training, parent engagement events and student intervention programmes. He is keen to identify students’ learning barriers and then structure a programme to address knowledge gaps. As a part of wider the school community Nick was approachable, well liked and keen to support other staff. He introduced several extracurricular activities including orienteering, running and was instrumental with the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Nick is a dedicated professional and I would highly recommend him as member of The Dyscalculia Network. Yours faithfully Diana Rabot

Testimonial from a client
Nick took my daughter on in YR3 he is professional and genuinely cares about his students. He listens to what the students find difficult and is patient and thorough. He helped us with getting her assessed for Dyslexia and made sure she had support in lockdown. Nick always used the right learning methods and materials for her. He taught her strategies that helped her learn more easily. Nick has a great deal of professionalism and tutored my daughter through to year YR6.
